An actual flight simulator can be set so that you actually must perform all of the tasks of flying an actual plane all the way down to an accurate flight check and landing. For the current generation console game market there are really only 3 flight games worth buying IMO. The first 2 are HAWX and HAWX 2. The first one was an exciting campaign with realistic scenery and lots of exciting action. The multi-player is very good and can get really heart pounding when there are many players in a match. The second one in the series is nearly a copy of the first in my opinion and if you own the first HAWX I see no reason to buy the second one.The third flight game available on console is Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. This is a long anticipated game in the Ace Combat series and is the first in the series to make it onto current generation consoles.
While it has most of the same aspects of previous installments in the series, a new element was added for this title called Dogfight Mode. Once you enter DFM you don't need to worry about actually flying since the game takes over that part. All you really need to focus on is trying to stay locked onto enemy aircraft. It's a nice addition to the game and focuses the player's energy on shooting rather than trying to outfly enemies. Now for some real flight simulators. The first, and probably most well known is Microsoft Flight Simulator X. While this is a really good simulator it does lack in some areas. It has all the things that are expected out of a good flight simulator and offers many different options and missions for the player. However it is an aging simulator and hasn't really been updated since around 2006. It also needs a fairly fast computer to run well with all the bells and whistles on. It's inexpensive now since it's such an old program so if you are on a tight budget it's worth considering.
You can also download a free trial on the homepage. I don't believe this sim is supported any more with updates. I haven't played it in over a year since I found a better product. The next flight simulator I will discuss is called ProFlight Simulator. This is probably the best simulator available on the market today. It's a beautiful game with everything you would expect from a flight simulator and then some. It is probably the closest thing to real flying that's out on the market. I know of no better flight simulator. This simulator also has multi-player with Google maps for an added level of realism.ProFlight is still supported today and likely will be in the very distant future. With your purchase you get free lifetime updates. If you get it now they are offering some really great time sensitive bonus materials. It comes with a 60 day satisfaction guarantee so if you decide you don't like it you get your money back. Right now they are offering the full game with instant download access and all the bonus material for 50% off the regular price. That makes it less than $50 and I personally couldn't find a better simulator anywhere for anything like this price.
ProFlight Simulator is my personal #1 pick for flight simulators. As I said before, if you are on a very tight budget then the Microsoft Flight Simulator X is not a bad program at all and you would save a few dollars buying it. It's a little dated and no updates are coming for it that I'm aware of, but it's still a pretty good simulator for the money. However, if you can allow a few more dollars in your budget I am certain you will be much more satisfied in the long run with ProFlight. I know I am! Hopefully this has helped some of you. To recap, my personal endorsement for a console flying game is HAWX. It's probably the best experience for the money. My personal choice for best flight simulator goes to ProFlight. It's just the best supported simulator available and with the 50% discount happening right now plus the bonus material it's just simply the best long term investment. Spend about $30 for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Gold or spend about $20 more for all that you get with ProFlight? If you decide that ProFlight is for you then please click the link I've provided in my Bio....or....if you decide that Microsoft Flight Simulator X is what you can afford then please click on the Amazon link in my Bio. I try to make purchases convenient by providing links to products and companies I believe in.
